12th Annual Members Show

Show Dates: September 28–October 21, 2018

The opening reception was on Troy Night Out, Friday, September 28.
As in prior years, all entries submitted have been published in the annual exhibition catalogue.

Peoples Choice

More than 60 visitors cast ballots among the 85 persons who came to the gallery during the run of the Members  Show. Feedback on the exhibit ranged from positive to effusive. These are the results of the highest vote  counts.

Photographers who garnered 5 or 6 votes for their work were Ed Evans, Chuck Miller, John Sun, Lawrence Rappoport, Connie Frisbee Houde, Ronda Anderson, Nelson  Toth, Christine Zacher and Peter Janacke.

Roger Stump and Connie Frisbee Houde had prints which got 7 votes.

The highest scores went to:

#5. McCormack Brubacker (a very recent member and first-time exhibitor here) for "Red II"

#4. John Sun (also recently joined and first-time exhibitor) for "Twilight in Blue" to which he had devoted  many hours of post-processing to replace lighting that had burned out, pixel-by-pixel

#3 Deyva Arthur for "Eggs" (those 4 ovoids so precariously laid)

#2 Ron Schubin for "Still Life" (such a classic genre, so expertly lit during a Katherine Wright workshop)

#1 Christine Zacher for "View from the Web" (actual dewdrops on a perfectly spun spider web in perfectly  sharp focus and with gentle bokeh background, in a black and white print in a home-made rustic wooden frame) came in with 15 votes, (31 weighted points) and clearly enjoyed by many.

Ghana's Spirit Children: Photographs by Carrie Brown

October 26 to November 11, 2018

The Photography Center of the Capital District is pleased to assist in the 2018 fund-raising efforts of Kekeli, Inc. with the publication of a book — Ghana's Spirit Children—and accompanying exhibition. Carrie Brown’s compelling images are on display at the Photography Center of the Capital District from October 26 to November 11, 2018. Carrie’s not-for-profit organization, Kekeli, Inc., has been dedicated to addressing human rights issues in Ghana, West
Africa, for the past decade.

Ghana’s Spirit Children will open your eyes to the plight of children with disabilities in Ghana. “Was this disability caused by some evil spiritual force? How can I pay for the services my child needs? Will my child be able to do any of the things other children do?” These are some of the questions parents ask when they discover their child has a disability. Kekeli’s mission is to support these parents and help their children with disabilities reach their full potential.

During the exhibit signed books and photographs are available for modest contributions to Kekeli, Inc.
