First Annual College Student Photographer ExhibitionFebruary 29–March 23, 2008The Photography Center of the Capital District exhibited works by college students in its first annual Student Photographer Exhibition. An astounding show of almost 100 images was selected from 225 entries, with 78 students from eight regional colleges participating. Students are gaining exposure to the capital district art community, in addition to exploring new ideas and techniques from others in surrounding colleges.

The Photography Center of the Capital District mounted its first annual student photography exhibition open to all secondary level students enrolled in schools in Rensselaer County. The exhibition and prize awards are sponsored by the Bette Kircher Memorial Photography Grant, in cooperation with the PhotoCenter.

Second Annual Members Exhibition

Last year we selected a total of 100 varied works from among the entries of 40 members to exhibit for our First Annual Members Show from October 15 to November 16, 2007. This year’s exhibit displays 85 varied works by 45 highly talented artists.

Charise Isis was born in the United States and raised in New Zealand. While working in the world of exotic dance, she began studying photography, focusing initially on her colleagues as the subjects of her photographs. The Center for Photography in Woodstock, New York, recently hosted a solo exhibition of Isis' work.
Isis resides in Kingston, New York. Before working as a photographer, Isis worked for many years as an exotic dancer. During that time she took her camera and documented the strength, beauty and creativity of her colleagues. Her first book, American Stripper, is awaiting publication. Isis’ work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally including at the Griffin Museum of Photography, Massachusetts; Art Galerie, Siegen, Germany; and The Seattle Erotic Art Festival. Currently Isis specializes in Boudoir Portraits, claiming an international clientele. Her work challenges society’s impossible standards of beauty allowing women of all different ages, shapes and sizes and in varying transitional phases of life to be able to express their sensuality and beauty.

Ken Ragsdale lives and works in Albany. He received a M.F.A. at the University at Albany, State University of New York, in 2005,. A painter, sculptor, and photographer, Ragsdale is ever-building a body of work based primarily on the exploration of the function and process of memory. Living in 14 different locations since birth, he was greatly affected by the ideas of impermanence and ephemerality, especially in relation to the accumulation of memories. Through his paintings, photographs and sculptural paper models, he explores both the physical space of places he remembers from his childhood as well as the figurative space of his memory.
